Welcome Message
Dear Esteemed Colleagues and Partners,
On behalf of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA -AITES), the Portuguese Tunnelling and Underground Space Commission (CPT) and the Portuguese Geotechnical Society (SPG) are pleased to invite you to participate in the prestigious event ITA TUNNELLING AWARDS 2026, which will be held at the SUD HALL Lisbon, from 4 to 6 November 2026.
The first day will be dedicated to the ITA Tunnelling Awards and on the second day an International Conference on Tunneling, with the title “Contribution of Underground Works to Society”, will be held to celebrate the CPT 20th Anniversary. On the third day, a series of technical visits of great interest to the participants will be organized, as several large-scale works are underway in Portugal, such as the new Lisboa and Porto subway lines, the Lisbon Drainage Plan project, hydroelectric works, among others.
This event will provide an excellent opportunity to reflect on the contribution of underground works to society, including their benefits in terms of sustainability, safety and environment, as well as their role in reducing transport emissions and freeing up urban surface for public use.
Hosting the ITA Tunnelling Awards 2026 in Portugal represents a unique opportunity, as it coincides with the 20th anniversary of CPT. We plan to celebrate this milestone with an International Conference bringing together both the global and national tunnelling communities, all within the distinctive setting of charming SUD Hall Lisbon.
We look forward to your support in making the 13th ITA Tunnelling Awards & CPT 20th Anniversary International Conference a remarkable success.
With best regards,
Raúl Sarra Pistone
President of the CPT, Chairman of the Organizing Committee

About Lisboa
Lisboa invites you
Lisboa, the capital of Portugal since the mid-13th century, is one of Europe’s oldest and most vibrant cities.
Located on the estuary of the Tagus River along the Atlantic coast, the Lisboa metropolitan area is home to around 3 million people, with 600,000 in the city proper. A city of unique character and charm, Lisboa combines over twenty centuries of history with modern culture. Legend attributes its founding to Ulysses, though it was likely established by the Phoenicians. Its original name, Olissipo, derives from the Phoenician Allis Ubbo, meaning “enchanting port.”
